Suboxone Detox vs Subutex Detox
Buprenorphine (Subutex) and buprenorphine and naloxone (Suboxone) are used to treat opioid dependence (addiction to opioid drugs, including heroin addiction and narcotic painkillers). Buprenorphine is in a class of medications called opioid partial agonist-antagonists, and naloxone is in a class of medications called opioid antagonists. Buprenorphine alone and the combination of buprenorphine and naloxone prevent withdrawal symptoms when someone stops taking opioid drugs by producing similar effects to these drugs.
Suboxone detox (Buprenorphine, Subutex): A new way to detox
Now you can detox in the privacy of a trained & certified physician's office. For the last few years, buprenorpine has been available in the U.S.A. to assist getting people addicted to opiates of ALL types (heroin, Vicodin, Oxycontin, Percocet & Codeine) opiate free. It is used in combination with addiction counseling, psychotherapy and other treatment modalities.
But it's not only able to help with the initial detox. Buprenorpine has improved the ability of specially certified physicians to help keep opiate addicted individuals off their drugs for extended periods of time.
Best of all is that suboxone (buprenorpine, subutex) can be prescribed right from a private physicians private office. No need to check into a hospital or medical detox facility. No need to admit yourself for a costly inpatient substance abuse rehabilitation stay.
What should I know about Buprenorphine?
Using buprenorphine improperly will increase your risk of serious side effects. Follow all dosing instructions carefully.
Like other narcotic medicines, buprenorphine can slow your breathing. Never crush a tablet or other pill to mix into a liquid for injecting the drug into your vein. This practice has resulted in death with the misuse of buprenorphine and similar prescription drugs. Be sure to carry an ID card or wear a medical alert bracelet stating that you are using buprenorphine, in case of emergency. Any doctor, dentist, or emergency medical care provider who treats you should know that you are being treated for narcotic addiction.
Taking buprenorphine together with other drugs that cause drowsiness can slow the functions of your breathing and central nervous system to dangerous levels. Also, avoid drinking alcohol, which can increase some of the side effects of buprenorphine. You may have withdrawal symptoms when you stop using buprenorphine after using it over a long period of time. Do not stop using this medication suddenly without first talking to your doctor. You may need to use less and less before you stop the medication completely. Buprenorphine can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert.
